Trouble balancing bench press

Since I've gone heavier on my benchpress, I am starting to feel less stable under the bar. My training partner tells me that I am pushing harder on my dominant side. The result is that the weaker side is throwing me off-balance.

I am guessing this is a common problem and I would like some opinons on the topic if you would.

Yep, pretty common problem. Your partner could very well be right. However, before looking for a more technical solution I suggest you try a different bench if one is available. Sometimes benches are made pretty narrow and one with a bit wider width will help you keep balance better until the strength equals out with both sides of the body.

Try to look for the most simple solutions first.

Ask your workout partner to check your technique. For example, it is a real balancing act if you don't have your feet firmly on the ground or if you start to raise your butt off the bench.
