My Legs Just Wont' Grow!

You know the old saying. If I had a nickel..blah, blah, blah. The most common thing I hear in the gym is that a trainer just can't get their legs to grow no matter how hard they work them or what exercises they do.
The first question I always ask them is, "Are you doing squats?" The answer is almost always, "No. I can't. They hurt my knees....They hurt my back....I had knee surgery and my doctor reccommends against them,"....you fill in the excuse. I then ask what they are doing. Most commonly, they are doing smith machine squats. Then I watch their exercise performance and 99% of them all do the same thing. They only go down about 1/4 the way to parallel.
Now is there any wonder theses people can't get their legs to grow? Do you think their chest would be growing if they never performed bench press and only did smith machine presses to 1/4 of the movements range of motion?!?!?! That's a pretty simple answer isn't it. It's quite ridiculous when you think about it really.
Are you one of these trainers wondering why your legs aren't growing? If so, be critical of your workouts. Are you really putting the maximum amount of effort into your leg work. Are you rationalizing so you don't have to put full effort into your leg work? Your legs will grow. Apply the correct amount of training stimulus, nutrition, and rest and your legs WILL grow.
